Caring anti-drugs campaigner dies

A LEADING anti-drugs campaigner has died at his home in Medway. David Hoskins, 63, had battled to warn young people not to take drugs since his own son, John, 20, died after taking Ecstasy.

The grandfather-of-one, who lived in First Avenue, Luton, Chatham, has died of a heart condition called cardiomyopathy. He leaves a widow, Andrea, 50, and a son, David, 22.

Mr Hoskins became a tireless anti-drugs campaigner after his son's death. He was known for visiting nightclubs in Medway wearing a sandwich board with a photograph of his son and the words Please Say No.

His eldest son John, a former soldier and a father of a young daughter, was found dead after taking the drug Ecstasy at a Gillingham nightclub in May, 1999.
