A FATHER who had his leg badly broken during a brutal robbery has spoken about his ordeal.

Mustafa Akbulut is back at home in Cliffe Woods with his right leg in plaster from foot to thigh after spending three days in hospital.

A gang of attackers – three men and a woman – wrenched open the door of his car as he was waiting at traffic lights at Frindsbury Hill, Strood.

They stole his mobile phone and wallet and, as he tried to give chase, one of the men struck him on the leg with a heavy weapon, breaking his leg in two places.

Mr Akbulut, 33, of Cliffe Woods, near Rochester, is now pleading for any witnesses to come forward and help police catch the people responsible.

He said: “It is the most terrifying thing that has ever happened to me. These thugs need to be caught before they rob and harm someone else.”

Fish and chip shop owner Mr Akbulut, who is married with one daughter, was driving home just before midnight on Monday, August 1, when the gang of robbers struck.

“It all happened so fast, I didn’t realise what it was at first,” he said. “One of the men took my new phone, which was worth nearly £200, and my wallet.

“Luckily my wallet had only my credit cards in it; my cash was elsewhere on me.”

After the gang fled, Mr Akbulut struggled back behind the wheel and drove to a nearby service station to call police.

He was in Medway Maritime Hospital for three days and needed an operation to repair his knee-cap.

Detectives are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time, or may have information, to contact them urgently.

* The first offender was aged 19 to 20, 5ft 8in and medium build with short hair. He was clean-shaven and spoke with a local accent. He was wearing a black tracksuit top with a number on it and blue jeans.

* The second offender was also 19 to 20, 5ft 8in and slim build with short hair, which was possibly bleached or highlighted. He was clean-shaven and wore a stud in his right ear. He was wearing a white tracksuit top.

* The woman is about 19 and had very long, jet black hair. Detectives have produced an e-fit of her.
