Census form pensioner jailed

A PENSIONER has been jailed for a week for refusing to fill in his national Census form. Robert Relf, 77, of Park Lane, Birchington, said he would not fill in the form because there was no space to write his nationality as English rather than British.

He refused to pay the £100 fine and court costs, so was jailed by magistrates at Margate.

A Census Office spokesman said that once somebody was prosecuted for not completing a Census form, that was the end of the matter.
