A SHOP worker faced a terrifying ordeal on Tuesday morning when the paper shop she was opening up was raided by armed robbers.

Five men armed with claw hammers struck the newsagents in Sir Thomas Longley Road, on Medway City Estate, Rochester, at around 5am.

They pinned the 62-year-old woman to the floor, before making off with cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of cash.

As workers arrived onto the estate throughout the morning, the area around the shop remained cordoned off by police.
