Cliff plunge driver making good recovery

An elderly man was seriously injured when the car he was driving plunged 20ft down a cliff.

Police say the man, 74, who comes from Ramsgate, was freed from his Honda Civic and taken to hospital.

He suffered a gash to the back of his head and suspected bleeding into the brain in the crash, which happened on Paragon Street, Ramsgate at around 12.30pm Friday.

He was taken to Margate's QEQM Hospital, where police say he is making a good recovery.

Emma Collins, who works at nearby film production company MEDB Films, said: "I've been told the car spun out of control, crashed through safety barriers and fell onto the main road down to the harbour.

"It's incredibly lucky that no-one else seems to have been hurt."

The area was cordoned off whilst officers from Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit examine the scene.
