Cody McDonald insists Gillingham are not out of the running for his signature despite the club missing out on promotion to League 1 this season.

The striker completed a successful loan spell with the Gills this season by walking away with all of the main player-of-the-year trophies after his 26 league goals in the season.

This week he returned for talks with parent club Norwich, where he has another year left on his contract, to discuss his future.

"It has worked out well for me," said the 24-year-old (pictured). "We will see what happens next year and hopefully I can do it for Gillingham.

"It’s out of my hands now. Maybe the (Gillingham) chairman and Norwich can sit down and come to some sort of agreement.

"If not I’ve had a great time, I appreciate what everyone has done for me and I have enjoyed myself.

"This club doesn’t deserve to be where it is. It’s a massive club and I am sure it can achieve promotion."
