Crackdown on off-road bikers continues

A 22-year-old man was arrested and five nuisance vehicle warnings issued as part of an ongoing police initiative to crack down on illegal off-road bikes in Medway.

Four riders were found using two scrambler bikes on rough ground under the M2 bridge at Wouldham Road at Borstal, near Rochester.

One of the riders was found to be wanted on warrant and was arrested. The 22-year-old Chatham man was taken into police custody.

PC Andy Ledger went to the scene following a report about the off-road bikes being used anti-socially.

Later the same day the officer patrolled the Port Victoria Road area in Grain where he issued a fifth warning to a boy using a mini-scrambler bike.

PC Ledger said: "Parts of the Grain area are much loved by birdwatchers, dog-walkers and people enjoying an afternoon stroll. It is not acceptable that local people are unable to enjoy these beautiful rural areas because of antisocial bikers.

"We will not hesitate in using all the powers available to us to stop this nuisance behaviour so that we can allow residents to enjoy a better quality of life."
