Crashes cause rush-hour tailbacks

Drivers around the Medway Towns faced tailbacks this morning caused by a series of incidents.

There was congestion in the Blue Bell Hill area when motorists were delayed by two buses, one of which is thought to have broken down,

stopped in a slip road to the A229.

Drivers using the Medway Tunnel faced slight delays when a van suffered a flat tyre and closed one lane of Strood-bound carriageway at about 7.40am.

Police cordoned off the carriageway while the van driver changed his wheel.

In Town Road, Cliffe Woods, near Mockbeggar Farm, a collision at 6.30am between two vehicles caused the road to be closed for more than an hour.

No one was thought to have been seriously injured in the crash, but the road was shut until 7.45am to allow the carriageway to be cleared of debris.

It is not thought anyone involved in the crash needed hospital treatment.
