A teenager has been keeping more than a garden fork in the family shed since moving back home with her mum.

In a move that Changing Rooms would have been proud of, Keileigh Sinclair , 19, has taken the decision to transform the brick building into a bedroom for herself.

Complete with her double bed and television, the walls of the shed also are adorned with posters and photographs to make it a home from home.

A cable running from her mother’s council flat to the shed provides Keileigh with electricity for her television and other equipment including a lightbulb, electric blanket and heater for the colder evenings.

Miss Sinclair moved back to Langland Drive, Darenth, about six months ago from Sevenoaks where she was living with her fiance and working as a care assistant.

But when the relationship broke down she decided to return home and moved back in with her mum Penny, 46, who is disabled and suffers from MS.

Uncomfortable

For three months Keileigh slept on the sofa but decided to evict the lawnmower from its home in the shed and take up residence in there when she became uncomfortable.

Keileigh said: “Because I have arthritis I couldn’t sleep on the two-seater sofa and so I had the cunning plan of sleeping in the shed.

“I can fit my double bed and table in it. I’ve slept in there for about three months now, I sleep there every night unless I have a cold.”

Returning home has also meant Keileigh can look after her mum who had a hip operation three months ago. At one point the teenager was her mum’s full-time carer.

She said: “My mum suffers from depression, panic attacks, very fragile joints, MS and high blood pressure so she needs me there.”

Keileigh is currently looking for another job, closer to her new home, while claiming job seekers allowance.

She said: “I pretty much care for my mum full time but she wants me to go out and do my dream job and care for people.

“I want to be a care assistant.

“If I can get a two-bedroom place I can adapt it so my mum can do things for herself and I can work.”
