Motorists are braced for Easter holiday getaway chaos on Kent's roads this afternoon.

As most of the county's schools break up for two weeks today, motorways are already feeling the strain of increased traffic.

Both the M2 and M20 have already suffered lane closures this afternoon.

One of two lanes is obstructed on the London-bound carriageway of the M2 between J6 for Faversham and J5 for Sittingbourne.

A lane of the M20 was earlier closed because of a broken-down vehicle.

It happened on the coastbound carriageway between J11 for Hythe and J11a for the Channel Tunnel at about 2.30pm.

Meanwhile, there are delays of up to 20 minutes on the M25 anti-clockwise between J1b at Dartford and the Dartford Crossing.

However, 30 sets of roadworks in Kent are going to be cleared in time for the long Easter weekend.

The Highways Agency said it is removing all traffic cones from the county's motorways and A-roads to help cope with extra demand next week.
