Driver's lucky escape as car overturns

A WOMAN motorist escaped serious injury today after her car overturned when it left the road and hit a raised grass bank.

The incident happened at Brooks End Hill, on the outskirts of Birchington.

The blue hatchback came to rest past farm cottages on the coastbound carriageway of the road that links Birchington to the Thanet Way at about 8.25am.

Police say the accident did not appear to involve another vehicle and that the woman was the sole occupant.

Fire and rescue services were called to the scene to clear petrol spillage.
