Firefighters returning from a job were confronted by a man holding a knife.

A crew from Sheppey arrived back to the station in High Street, Sheerness, at about 10.10pm on Monday.

They found the man at the front door and when they approached him, they saw he had a knife.

He didn’t threaten the firefighters but they were concerned for his safety.

Some of them spoke to the man and tried to calm him down while the others called the police.

When police arrived the man, who was in his 50s, dropped the knife.

He was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital to be assessed under the Mental Health Act.
