Fire crews rescue teenager stuck on roof

A teenager got stuck on the roof of a leisure centre and had to be rescued by firefighters.

The 13-year-old boy, who has not been named, climbed up on the roof of the Splashes Leisure Centre, in Bloors Lane, Rainham, to retrieve his football on Wednesday afternoon.

He managed to climb up but when he tried to come back down with his ball, he got stuck.

He had been playing in nearby Cozenton Park with his friends who called for help from Kent Fire and Rescue Service. A crew from Medway fire station arrived to help the boy get down at about 3.30pm.

A spokesman said:“It is a two-storey building with a sloping roof, it was a rather silly idea to get up on it to retrieve a ball. His mates called us when they realised he couldn’t get down.

“We just put a ladder up against the side of the building, to help him down.

“His mates thought it was rather funny.”
