Fire crews tackle carpet warehouse blaze

Around 24 firefighters were called to tackle a rooftop blaze in a carpet warehouse.

Crews were called to the Carpet Sales Centre in Luton Road, Chatham, shortly after 7.30pm on Tuesday following reports of a fire in the roof of the three-storey property.

Four fire engines from Chatham, Sittingbourne and Medway stations attended. A height vehicle was also brought in.

There were no casualties and the fire was brought under control by 8.30pm. About a fifth of the roof is thought to have been destroyed.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: "We received the call to the scene at 7.35pm. Crews found a fire in the roof void. Fortunately at that time of night there was not that many people around. No one was injured."
