A car was totally destroyed in a fire on the A2.

A pump from both Dartford and Gravesend went to the scene just after 7.30am Saturday.

The incident, at the Pepper Hill junction of the London-bound carriageway, forced the Highways Agency to close the slip road as crews dealt with the blaze.

A fault is believed to have occured on the vehicle's fuel injection.

The Alfa Romeo was written off in the fire, but no injuries were reported.
