Motorists on the M20 alerted firefighters after they saw a blazing car on the London-bound carriageway between junctions 10 and 11 for Ashford and Hythe.

The car was severely damaged and the driver was unhurt and it is thought the fire was caused by a fault in the car's fuel line.

Firefighters believe the callers were passengers in passing cars or drivers pulling up on the hard shoulder to use their mobile phones.

Fire crews were alerted at about 3.15pm Saturday and two engines, one from Ashford and one from Folkestone, were called.
