Firefighters tackle blaze in flats for elderly

Four teams of firefighters were called to block of flats for the elderly in Littlebourne in the early hours of Sunday after a fire broke out in a resident's bedroom.

The alarm was raised at Ellen Court in Nargate Street, at about 5.30am.

The blaze was contained to the room but some residents were moved away from the area.

The room was badly damaged but nobody was hurt.

•Police are investigating separate fires which badly damaged two sheds on an allotments plot in Rochester way, Canterbury, on Saturday night.

The fires broke out at about 8pm and are suspected of being started deliberately.
