Environment Agency puts Kent on flood alert after heavy downpours

Several flood alerts have been put in place on rivers in parts of Kent today.

The Eden, Upper Stour, Darent and Swalecliffe are affected following heavy rain on Friday and over the weekend.

However, the Environment Agency said water levels are expected to fall throughout the day.

Motorists experienced hazardous driving conditions in parts of Kent because of the downpours over the weekend.

Cars negotiated localised flooding in areas including Willesborough Road, in Ashford, near the Julie Rose Stadium.

The Highways Agency warned drivers to take extra care amid the flood alerts.
