Fresh appeal over road tragedy

KENT Police's serious collision investigation unit has made a new appeal for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision.

It happened at about 10am Friday, March 2, on the A228 Hale Street by-pass at East Peckham and involved a white Volvo goods vehicle and a blue and white Veolia (formerly Cleanaway) road clearing truck. Damien Griffiths, 20, from Swanley, a Veolia employee, died following the collision.

In particular, police officers would like to trace the driver of a dark blue 4x4 vehicle, possibly a Land Rover, towing a car trailer which had nothing on it.

The 4x4 was following the Volvo lorry along the A228 towards the Hop Farm at Beltring and when the collision occurred it had moved out into lane two and was therefore behind, but to the right, of the white Volvo lorry.

Officers believe the driver of the 4x4 may have information that would be of assistance to their investigation.

The driver of the 4x4 or anyone with information is asked to contact PC Guy Ditcher at the SCIU on 01622 798538, or 01622 798535.
