A gas explosion at a dentist's surgery has led to a woman being taken to hospital with burns.

Firefighters and police were called to the Gillingham practice at about 2.30pm on Monday.

It is unclear how the small butane gas canister exploded at the Dental Healthcare practice, in a four-storey building in Gillingham High Street.

It is understood someone had put out the fire using a handheld extinguisher before fire crews arrived.

A woman suffered slight injuries in the fire and was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital with burns. Her current condition is unknown.
