Gillingham forward Andy Barcham backs side to get first win of the season against Lincoln at Priestfield

Gillingham’s Andy Barcham is hoping their class means the side avoid a repeat of the last visit from Lincoln.

A last-minute goal from Danny N’Guessan won the game for The Imps as they completed the double over Gills in the 2008/09 season.

Barcham, pictured, played in that last meeting and, 17 months on, his craft and skill could prove vital this time around.

"At home, especially, as a wide man you need to get on the ball and create something," he said.

"But I’m not looking at that as a key battle, it’s just going to be about who can produce it on the day.

"If we score early it could open the game up but if we can’t, we just have to keep patient and it will come.

"If we can match teams first with the physical side and then impose on them what we can do football-wise, I think we’ll be just fine."

After the opening two games the Gills have been made to wait for the win they crave but Barcham doesn’t want to analyse things too much.

"We try not to think about it, really," he said. "If we get this win on Saturday, it starts off as a great season in the league."
