Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler is quite clear where his squad he needs strengthening.

A replacement for keeper Simon Royce, who left the club to join Brentford in a coaching capacity last week, is a recent addition to a shopping list that also includes a striker, a defender and two midfielders.

Hessenthaler said: "We’re looking for another striker, a different type to what we’ve already got.

"Because of Simon (King), we need to sort out a left-sided defender. The lad Darren Dennehy (pictured) that Gillingham had last year is a player we’re looking at - other left-sided centre-halves have been put to me as well.

"(We’re also after) a midfield player who is perhaps a little more disciplined than what we’ve got in the squad, someone who can sit in there and let the likes of Curtis Weston get forward."
