Gillingham manager Martin Allen is keen to drive the negativity out of Priestfield.

Allen saw his Gills side net four goals for the second Saturday in a row at home. They remain top of League 2 – as they have done since the start of September - following the 4-1 win against Burton Albion.

But Allen (pictured) revealed he was still receiving negative comments and used his programme notes to apologise to one vocally-abusive supporter for the glare he gave him last week.

"I wrote in my programme notes ‘why have a go at the players?’ It doesn’t make sense," said Allen.

"I go and watch matches all the time, all over the place, two or three nights a week and I hear it at other clubs. I don’t really want it to happen at our club. There is no point. It doesn’t do the team or the club any good.

"I did say sorry to that guy who was criticising our players because he pays his money and he can say what he wants when he comes in, basically.

"But it is much better to be happy and to try and give them confidence – try and encourage them. If we make a mistake, we don’t get on at them. We look after them and do nice things.

"How nice was it on Saturday with all those supporters singing those songs? There were a lot of children in the ground; it was amazing. It was a much better experience."

Has Martin Allen got a point, or will there always be some negativity at games no matter how well a team is doing? Have your say below.
