GILLINGHAM came from behind to record their third straight victory in League 1 at Milton Keynes Dons on Saturday.

The home side took the lead from the penalty spot five minutes before the break.

They broke after Darren Byfield had hit the wall with a free-kick at the other end and the referee pointed to the spot for a foul by Jon Wallis on Izale McLeod. Gary Smith made no mistake from 12 yards drilling low past Jason Brown.

Gillingham sparked into life in the second half and turned the game around in a two-minute spell just before the hour mark.

First, Tommy Black picked out Byfield with a superb pass and the Gills top scorer went round his marker before beating Ricardo Batista with a fine finish.

Then, almost immediately, the visitors were in front when Black took a free-kick on the edge of the box quickly to catch the home side off guard.

It was action at both ends as McLeod could have equalised for MK Dons less than a minute later but Brown tipped over.

Brown had earlier kept the scoreline blank when he made a stunning save from Smith's piledriver from the edge of the area. He also saved well when a Smith shot took a nasty deflection late on.

Late substitute Danny Spiller should have made it 3-1 near the end but he failed to convert Wallis's fine cross.

Gillingham: Brown, Wallis, Cox, Sancho, Jackman, Black, Pouton, Crofts, Jarvis, Mulligan, Byfield.
Subs Not Used: Crichton, Johnson, Spiller, Flynn, Harris.
Attendance: 6,432.
