The grieving mother of a boy tragically killed when his car slid on ice has paid tribute to her "lovely, kind, caring, considerate" son.

The 17-year-old crash victim is yet to be formally identified by police but was named locally as Charlie Baldock.

Speaking on KentOnline, Charlie's mum Rachel said: "Thank you everyone so much for all your lovely kind comments.

"Charlie was such a lovely, kind, caring, considerate boy who is loved so, so much.

"My boy was my angel and now he is up there with all the other angels looking down on us all. No doubt with that big cheesy smile he always had and I'm sure always will.

"He will always be in my thoughts and especially in my heart. I love you son."

Tributes flooded in for the teen over the weekend after the tragic crash early on Friday morning.

Julia Yard said: "My darling cousin died tragically, the family are devastated."

Readers described him as "one of the loveliest teenagers you could ever meet".

Police said Charlie's motor overturned in freezing conditions near Ashford just after midnight and crashed into a ditch.

The tragic incident happened in Ashford Road, Bilsington.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene by the emergency services.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "The 17-year-old was driving his car from Bilsington towards Ashford when it left the road and landed on its roof in a ditch, trapping him underneath."

Officers have confirmed ice was on the road and it was closed while gritters salted it this morning.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is under way.
