Funds for a group opposed to what it sees as unsuitable building schemes for Whitstable harbour received a boost from a sponsored walk.

Thirty people took part in the three-mile trek from the South Quay, along Tankerton, to the Long Rock and back.

They raised about £300 for Whitstable Harbour Watch, which was formed in 2006 to oppose what members deemed unsuitable building schemes for the harbour.

Val Sanders, one of the founders, said: “We need to raise a bit of money for the stamps and the publishing we do and we’re all the feeling the pinch a bit now.

“We’ve got about 3,000 members and we are allowed to speak at meetings of the Harbour Board so the council recognises us as a legitimate voice in the town.”
