Stunned motorists were stopped in their tracks today when a horse wandered out onto a dual carriageway.

The black and white beast ground traffic to a halt on the A2070 Bad Munstereifel Road in Ashford.

Police were called at 1pm and, with the help of a member of the public, managed to catch the horse and put it secured in a field.

The chaos happened close to the junction with Waterbrook Road and the animal was taken off the road at about 1.20pm.

South Kent Police spokesman said: "We don't know where the horse came from but we managed to take it to a nearby field."

The horse was a piebald and 15 hands high.
