Police investigating a serious assault on a young woman in woodland near Ashford are appealing for witnesses.

The scene close to John Wesley School in Singleton was taped off and forensic officers drafted in after the attack on Friday morning.

The victim, a 17-year-old girl, was walking along the public footpath in the Millennium woods area of Bucksford Lane and Green Fields Lane when she was attacked between 7.45am and 8.30am.

Her attacker is described as being a 6ft tall, white man.

Det Insp Gavin Moss from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said: "The area is very popular with dog walkers so we are sure that there would have been other people in the area at the time.

"I would appeal to anyone who saw a man acting suspiciously to contact us, however minor they think their information may be."

Anyone with who was in the area at the time or has any information is asked to contact detectives at Kent Police in on 01303 289600. Alternatively call Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
