Road chiefs in Kent have issued an ice alert to motorists today as temperatures look set to plunge.

Drivers have been warned that icy patches could pose a danger on the roads tomorrow morning.

Gritters are due to be out on the county's main roads but some surfaces will remain untreated.

A spokesman for Kent Highway Services said: "Road surface temperatures in Kent expected to fall below freezing point overnight.

"In anticipation of this the main roads throughout Kent will be treated to help prevent the formation of ice and frost on road surfaces tomorrow morning."
