The KM Group’s Geraldine Allinson has been appointed president of the Newspaper Society.

Geraldine is following in the footsteps of her father and grandfather by taking up the role at the society, which represents the interests of the newspaper industry across the UK.

She joined the KM Group as development manager in 1993 and rose through the ranks to her current position of chairman in 2006.

Geraldine’s father Edwin Boorman, the KM Group’s President, chaired the Newspaper Society in 2001, and his father HR Pratt Boorman held the same role in 1960.

Geraldine said: “There is much comment about the challenges facing local newspapers and, indeed, all media sectors today, but the simple fact is that no other media can replicate the local press.

"Our newspapers scrutinise those in authority, support local businesses and campaign on behalf of our readers.”

Married with two children, Geraldine began her career at the Express and Star in Wolverhampton.

She is taking over the role at the Newspaper Society from Georgina Harvey, managing director of Trinity Mirror Regionals.
