Welling returned to winning ways with an impressive victory at Maidenhead on Tuesday in Blue Square Bet South.

Luis Cumbers (pictured) scored twice with Harry Baker and an own goal rounding off the tally at York Road.

The returning Lee Clarke saw an early effort blocked but Welling did take the lead midway through the first half when a flowing team move saw Jack Obersteller cross for Cumbers to head beyond keeper Billy Lumley.

Welling doubled their lead three minutes after the break when Obersteller's free-kick was turned in. Anthony Acheampong tried to claim it but it was awarded as an own goal by veteran defender John Scarborough.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men when striker Alex Wall saw red for a stamp on Acheampong in front of the referee.

Welling made it 3-0 on the hour when Cumbers converted from close range following a corner and it was 4-0 when Baker produced an exquisite curling effort from 20 yards.

Substitute Ben Greenhalgh hit the post as the Wings threatened to run riot but it was the ease of their victory - against a team that has won at Woking and drawn with Dartford in recent weeks - that would have impressed manager Jamie Day the most.

  • Bromley drew 0-0 at home to Havant to move three points clear of the relegation zone and keep their opponents one place and one point below them in the table.
