A KENT man charged with murdering his grandmother on Christmas Day appeared at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday.

Maxwell Twyman, 25, of Conyngham Close, Ramsgate spoke only to confirm his name. He was remanded in custody by Judge Michael Lawson QC until Friday, May 2.

Twyman was due to enter a plea to the charge of murder, but the hearing was adjourned at the request of the prosecution.

He is alleged to have stabbed Valerie Twyman, 62, at her home, also in Conyngham Close. A post mortem revealed she died from wounds to her chest and abdomen.

A medical report from Twyman's defence team will now be considered, but the court was told that a trial could be held in October.
