A 52-year-old man has been charged with arson following a fire at Erith Town Hall.

Kevin Whale of Creekside, Greenwich, is set to appear at Bexley Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Records and files were found alight in the council building on Walnut Tree Road, just before 10pm, on Monday.

Two pumps from Erith and one from Woolwich spent two hours tackling the blaze and securing the area.

Watch manager, Colin Bonwick said: “There was smoke damage throughout the building.”
