Man threatens to throw himself from bridge

POLICE negotiators spent almost two hours talking to a man threatening to throw himself from a road bridge near Ashford. The specially trained officers finally coaxed the man from the bridge over the Great Chart by-pass after two hours.

Police had earlier received a call about a domestic problem and then discoveded the man had made his way to the bridge. The road was closed between the Singleton entrance and the Great Chart turn-off and an ambulance was placed on standby while the man was talked down and led to safety.

The man, who lives in the Ashford area, has not been named.
