Medway prepares for return of Dunkirk spirit

The 68th anniversary of the evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940 will be marked when some of the little ships visit Medway next month. The visit on Saturday, May 24 to Monday, 26 May commemorates the anniversary of Operation Dynamo.

This was the name given to the dramatic evacuation of 385,000 British and Allied troops from the beaches of Dunkirk in May and June 1940. The visit has been organised by the Association of Dunkirk Little Ships.

The little ships will be arriving on Saturday and will be moored at Chatham Maritime basin number one, which is by the bridge to St Mary's Island.

A remembrance service will be held at 11.30am on Sunday, May 25. Everyone is welcome to attend the service and to pop along and see the ships while they are moored.

Medway Council, the South East England Development Agency and MDL Marine have supported the visit.
