Medway pub swigs up for wine tasting record

A Rochester manager is calling on customers to take part in a world record wine tasting event.

Wendy Hubbard, manager at The Golden Lion in High Street, is staging the event as part of the pub’s 19-day wine festival, which runs from Wednesday May 21 until Sunday June 8 inclusive.

It is one of 680 Wetherspoon pubs across the UK that is hosting the synchronised wine tasting in an attempt to create a new Guinness World Record TM. The wine tasting will take place at The Golden Lion at 6pm on Wednesday May 21, with customers offered a free glass of wine (50ml).

Pub manager Wendy Hubbard said: “This is a great opportunity for people to be part of a Guinness World Record TM attempt.

“All they have to do is come to the pub and enjoy a glass of wine at the same time as other customers in Wetherspoon pubs across the UK.

“The current world record stands at 5,100 tasters and I am confident that it can be beaten, with my customers playing their part.”

During the festival, The Golden Lion will be serving six new wines not previously available in the pub, which will complement up to 16 additional wines.
