Danny Spiller returned from a two-month absence on Sunday against Cheltenham Town, giving the Gillingham squad an extra boost as the push for promotion gathers pace.

The midfielder (pictured) has been absent with a damaged finger since the game against Chesterfield at the end of January but returned at the weekend after coming off the substitutes’ bench.

He played for just under half an hour with his left hand bandaged, helping Gillingham to a 2-1 win.

Gills assistant boss Ian Hendon said: "He played in the reserves in the week and put in a good shift. He looks sharp and he is dying to get back into the team."
