There were mixed fortunes for Kent’s clubs in the FA Cup on Saturday as three booked their passage into the second qualifying round.

Margate and Faversham Town will replay on Tuesday night after scrapping out a 2-2 draw at Salters Lane.

The home side, from Ryman League Division 1 South, came in as underdogs but twice took the lead in an entertaining tie.

James Peacock put Faversham ahead after just two minutes but Sam Long equalised soon after.

Midway through the second period, Luke Harvey put Town 2-1 in front but Carl Rook’s header means the local rivals must do it all again at Hartsdown Park.

The day’s big casualties were Folkestone Invicta, who crashed out 3-2 at the hands of Combined Counties outfit Badshot Lea.

Goals from Stuart King (pictured) and Darren Marsden had put Neil Cugley’s men 2-0 up at the interval but the Surrey side pulled a goal back early in the second half.

They struck again in the 86th minute and with a replay beckoning, Invicta conceded the winner in stoppage-time.

Maidstone United progressed serenely into Monday’s draw with a 4-0 win at Chipstead.

Paul Booth scored twice for the visitors, for whom Shaun Welford and Alex Flisher were also on target.

Also through are Thamesmead Town, who put in a solid performance to beat Worthing 2-0.

Goals either side of half-time from Danny Kerrigan and Enoch Adjei secured the Mead’s passage.

Cray Wanderers negotiated a potential banana skin tie at Greenwich Borough but they needed a late Jamie Darvill strike to see off the Kent League side.

Greenwich goalkeeper Luke Roberts made a string of saves to keep Cray out but Darvill, a second-half substitute, finally beat him with a smart header.

Elsewhere, Chatham Town were beaten 3-1 at Hastings United. The Ryman League Premier Division side put the tie to bed with goals from Jamie Crellin, Tom Vickers and Bradley Goldberg before Harry Smith registered a late consolation for the Chats.

Sittingbourne were also drawn away to higher-ranked opposition and a 5-0 defeat at Whitehawk sent them crashing out.

The visitors had Nick Davis harshly sent off after just 12 minutes and it was a one-sided contest after that. Football League veteran Scott McGleish was among the scorers for Whitehawk, who were 4-0 up by half-time.

Two other Kent League sides reached the end of the FA Cup trail on Saturday. VCD Athletic, conquerors of Whitstable Town in the previous round, lost 1-0 at home to Horsham, while Beckenham Town were thrashed 7-1 by Metropolitan Police at Eden Park Avenue.

In Ryman League Division 1 South, Ian Pulman scored a dramatic equaliser on his return to Ramsgate.

Having re-joined the Rams from Whitstable, Pulman struck with a minute remaining to earn his new club a 1-1 draw at home to Merstham.

Meanwhile, Byron Walker was back in the Herne Bay side and back on the scoresheet but his goal couldn’t prevent Simon Halsey’s side sliding to a 3-1 defeat at leaders Crawley Down Gatwick.
