Mother badly burned in bonfire petrol horror

A mother was airlifted to hospital with second degree burns to her face and chest after she poured petrol on a bonfire.

The horrific incident, which took place shortly after 1pm Friday in Weeds Wood, Chatham, was witnessed by the woman's nine-year-old son.

The woman is thought to have poured petrol on a bonfire in her back garden to help it catch alight. But the attempt went badly wrong when the petrol caught fire and engulfed her in flames.

The woman suffered second degree burns to her face, chest, arms and legs.
