POLICE want to hear from drivers who had to swerve to avoid hitting a woman lying in the road after being viciously attacked. The victim had been left unconscious with a serious head injury.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "We have clear CCTV footage of drivers taking evasive action to avoid colliding with the victim.

"We want them to come forward as well as any other drivers or pedestrians who were in the area at the time."

The 25-year-old was attacked at Cray Road, Foots Cray, at about 2.15pm on Monday last week. She was found next to the kerb bleeding heavily from a head wound outside the Coca Cola Industrial Park.

Police say they recovered quality CCTV footage from a 321 bus showing cars swerving to avoid the woman. The victim was taken to hospital and kept in intensive care.

Officers said this week that she was out of intensive care and her condition was conscious and stable. Detectives were waiting to interview her to find out what happened.

Police sealed of Cray Road for several hours to search for clues following the incident. Officers say they are still trying to trace and speak to two men seen running into grassland opposite the Coca Cola site in the road carrying a large white bag.

The two men police wish to speak to are described as aged between 18 and 19. One was wearing tracksuit and the other a blue t-shirt. Anyone with information concerning this incident should contact Mick Morgan of Bexleyheath CID on 020 8284 9131.

Police last week arrested a 16-year-old youth in connection with their inquiries into the incident.

He was released on police bail pending further inquiries and was due to report back to officers next week.
