New interim chief exec for hospitals trust

Troubled Bromley Hospitals Trust will have a new interim chief executive next month.

Michael Marchment is set to take over the reigns of the debt-ridden trust from Ian Wilson on June 14.

The trust is battling a £99m cash deficit, one of the largest in the country.

Its chairman Huw Alderman said: “We want to ensure that the major steps forward which Ian Wilson has led over recent months continue in the months and years ahead; and with them the aim of making Bromley Hospitals one of the best trusts in the country.

“While this handover period is somewhat longer than the norm, it is quite deliberate in that it will enable Mr Marchment to understand fully what has gone before, and therefore maintain the pace of improvement in services to our patients.”

Mr Marchment joined the trust as deputy chief executive on May 6, with the intention that he will take over as interim chief executive from Mr Wilson.

He has a long track record of management in the NHS, including a variety of different chief executive roles, as well as Department of Health and international health service experience.

He is expected to stay in the role until a new permanent chief executive is recruited.
