Nightclub slammed by judge for serving drunk revellers

A judge has slammed a nightclub for allowing drunk customers to be served 'just to make a quick buck’.

Judge Timothy Nash criticised the operators of Baa Bars in Canterbury as he sentenced a clubber for viciously assaulting another man on the dance floor.

The assault occurred when victim James Bax accidentally bumped into drunken Thomas O’Dea, who punched him in the face, causing him to fall and break his jaw.

O’Dea, 22, of Old Park Avenue, Canterbury, admitted to the dance floor attack and was given a six-month suspended prison sentence and 220 hours unpaid work.

But Judge Nash saved his harshest words for the operators of Jones’s Nightclubs, which includes Canterbury’s three-storey complex comprising of The Bizz, The Works and Baa Bars.

He added: “They made an error, which frequently happens these days with club owners. Instead of telling you to go away, they let you in and you had even more alcohol.

“They shouldn’t have served you when you were inside and it is not the first time this sort of thing has happened at Baa Bars.

“But, anxious just to make a quick buck, that’s what they did.”
