Cody McDonald has joined Gillingham from Norwich as part of the deal that took Simeon Jackson to Carrow Road.

The 24-year-old striker joins on a season-long loan deal.

His arrival will go someway to filling the void left by Thursday’s departure of leading striker Jackson.

McDonald was signed by Norwich following a prolific spell with non-league Dartford, where he smashed 19 goals in 20 games.

He only played a bit-part for Norwich last season but did appear against the Gills twice, scoring the only goal of the game in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy second round fixture.

With Jackson’s arrival at Norwich his chances of breaking into Paul Lambert’s side were narrowed further still.

Lambert said: “Cody needs games. He is not long out of non-league so his game is still developing.”
