Commemorative medals issued to children in Pluckley at the village’s diamond jubilee street party have had to be recalled due to a misprint.

Organisers discovered half of the 200 items ordered read "Puckley".

Although the parish council spotted the mistake, a delay in shipping out the replacements meant the misnamed medals had to be handed out.

Pluckley Parish Council chairman Martin Newman, 65, said of the fiasco: "We wanted to have some memento to remember the day by, especially for the children.

"We thought about all the usual stuff, like balloons or mugs, but the children were really keen on the medal idea.

"As soon as they arrived, about a week before the jubilee, we spotted the mistake.

"Frustratingly, the replacements didn’t arrive in time, and we thought it better to hand out the misspelt medals than leave many of the children without one.
“It’s all been a been a bit of a cock-up frankly."

The replacements have now arrived and children with the misspelt medals who wish to swap theirs for a Pluckley one may now do so by taking it to the village shop.
