Pictures could be used to prosecute rat run lorry drivers

Sorry, this video asset has been removed.

Photographic evidence could be used to prosecute drivers who flout a weight restriction in a quiet country lane.

Residents of Bekesbourne Road, Bekesbourne, had thought their rat run problems would be over when the 7.5 ton limit was imposed.

But lorries are still flouting it - as are buses.

Now Kent Highway Services has called for any photographic evidence available and the pictures could be used by police to prosecute drivers.

A dossier is being collated by the Bekesbourne Road and Town Hill Residents’ Association (BRATHRA) for distribution the authority.

BRATHRA spokesman Alan Howland said: “This evidence has been available for a long time. At long last somebody is sitting up to take notice of what we’ve been saying.”

Kent Highway Services spokesman Phil Scrivener said the long term aim was to produce a map for the haulage industry, showing designated lorry routes and no-go roads.

He said: “We would welcome any evidence of lorry drivers ignoring weight restriction signs. We need to catch them red handed.”
