Police name teenage crash victim

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a young man was killed in a car crash on the outskirts of Maidstone.

Spencer Goodwin, 19, from Gillingham, died and four people were injured when two cars were in collision in Lidsing Road, between Boxley and Bredhurst.

Mr Goodwin was travelling in the front of a Ford Focus carrying two other people on its way to Maidstone when the accident happened at around 2pm on Saturday. The Focus collided with a Pegeot carrying a grandfather and his six-year-old grandson.

Ambulance staff tried to revive Mr Goodwin, but he died from his injuries on his way to Maidstone Hospital.

The six-year-old boy was taken by air ambulance to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford and was kept in overnight for observation.

Police closed off the road for more than two hours while members of the crash investigation unit carried out a search of the area. Floral tributes have since been laid at the scene.
