A chubby thief knocked down a pregnant woman in a botched raid on a newsagents.

The man shoved his shop worker victim violently to the floor as he tried to force open a cash register.

He is described as being white, aged between 26 and 27 and 5ft 8in tall.

The incident happened on Wednesday at a newsagents in Gladstone Road, South Willesborough.

Police said the robber dropped the stolen cash as he fled towards the door.

Luckily, the woman and her baby weren't seriously hurt.

DC Pete Edwards, who is leading the investigation, said: "The pregnant woman was taken to the William Harvey Hospital to be checked, and thankfully there are no concerns for her health or that of her baby.

"However, this offender had no regard for her condition and I am keen to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the vicinity which may help this investigation."
