POLICE are appealing for information after two boats were destroyed by fire and two others damaged.

They were called to Queenborough Creek on Sheppey after CCTV cameras picked up a theft in progress on the cabin cruisers.

When they got there the boats were already alight and the group of suspects were nowhere to be seen.

Three pumps from Sheppey Fire and Rescue attended but as they were fighting the fire flares were being set off by the flames.

An ambulance was also in attendance in case of any injuries from the flares. Boats either side of the fire suffered fire and heat damage.

Swale police spokeswoman Sally Smith said: “We are investigating and studying CCTV footage. We would appreciate anyone with information to contact Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.”
