Pub's catalogue of misery

INTRUDERS broke into a public house last night only hours after it had been burnt out in a fire.

A worker at the Bull's Head in London Road, Strood, now believes the pub is being deliberately targeted. When the vandals entered the building they smashed a cigarette machine and broke open a pool table in an attempt to steal money.

Yesterday's fire was the second at the pub in six days. The vandalism is the latest incident in a devastating week which has also seen the death of acting landlord Marc Bishop. His funeral was taking place today.

The worker, who didn't wish to be named, said they had been forced to abandon plans to hold a wake in the pub.

"We wanted to go back to the pub, but we can't cope. Marc wanted everyone to have a drink for him in the pub. We can't do that now."
