Queen honours Jagger and KM chief

DARTFORD-born rock singer and song writer Mick Jagger becomes Sir Mick in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to music. A generous sprinkling of honours have also been awarded to people across Kent.

Among them is Kent Messenger Group chairman Edwin Boorman, from Wateringbury, near Maidstone, who receives an OBE for his services to the Royal British Legion in the county.

Mr Boorman said: "It is a privilege to have been recognised in this Jubilee year. The good work carried out by Royal British Legion in Kent, including Royal British Legion Industries is as relevant today as ever. It is a pleasure to be part of an organisation and people who do so much good."

Coroner’s officer, Frank Tully, receives an MBE for his services to the coroner’s office in Maidstone, and Marden resident, Jack Pavey - head of the International Relations branch of the Lord Chancellor’s Department - also gets an MBE.

Maidstone GP, Dr Manpreet Singh Pujara, has been awarded the MBE, while violinist, Barry Griffiths, from Sevenoaks, gets and OBE.

Community figures also feature prominently in the honours. Juliet Wright receives an MBE for her work in Stoke, near Strood, and an MBE goes to Michael Tamsett, for services to the community in Detling.

In the Ashford area, veteran Kentish Express reporter, Barbara Butcher, receives an MBE for services to journalism and the same honour goes to Woodchurch dairyman, Kenneth Chapman, for services to the community.

Kent-based William Crawford, director general of the Imperial War Museum, becomes a Commander of the British Empire, while Ian Hammerton, from Dartford, earns the MBE for services to the Woodland Trust in Kent.

The world-famous Battle of Britain Museum near Folkestone is also honoured in the shape of an MBE for its curator, Michael Llewllyn.

On the industry front, former Veuve Clicquot business woman of the year, Patricia Vaz - director of customer services for BT in Kent - receives an OBE for services to telecommunications.
